Source Description
TAIRPutative transcription factor, contains C2H2 domain, regulates aspects of shoot maturation in Arabidopsis thaliana. GIS loss-of-function mutations affect the epidermal differentiation of inflorescence organs, causing a premature decrease in trichome production on successive leaves, stem internodes, and branches. Overexpression has the opposite effect on trichome initiation and causes other heterochronic phenotypes, affecting flowering and juvenileadult leaf transition and inducing the formation of rosette leaves on inflorescence stems.
UniProtProbable transcription factor required for the initiation of inflorescence trichomes in response to gibberellin (GA). Does not play a significant role in the cytokinin response. Acts upstream of the trichome initiation regulators GL1 and GL3, and downstream of the GA signaling repressor SPINDLY (SPY). Mediates the induction of GL1 expression by GA in inflorescence organs and is antagonized in its action by the DELLA repressor GAI. Controls trichome branching downstream of the key regulator STICHEL (STI) in an endoreduplication-independent pathway. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16679458, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17507408, ECO:0000269|PubMed:22210898, ECO:0000269|PubMed:23825141}.

  1. GLABROUS INFLORESCENCE STEMS (GIS) is a putative C2H2 transcription factor which regulates several aspects of shoot maturation in Arabidopsis.
    [PMID: 16679458]
  2. GIS is required for the gibberellic acid-regulated trichome branching. GIS is not required for cell endoreduplication but functions downstream of the key regulator STI to control trichome branching in an endoreduplication-independent pathway.
    [PMID: 22210898]
  3. show that ZFP5 encodes a protein functionally equivalent to GIS and GIS2 in controlling trichome initiation
    [PMID: 22301962]
  4. GIS may play an indirect role in regulating trichome cell division by genetically interacting with SIM
